Stake Your Take

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this real-money gambling?

No. Stake Your Take uses virtual tokens that have no cash value. You cannot deposit money, purchase tokens, sell them, or cash them out.

Stake Your Take is a play-for-fun competition for sports fans, built around bragging rights rather than real-money wagering.

What is a group?

A group is a private, self-contained competition between you and your friends.

Every group has its own members, starting bankrolls, takes, standings, and season window. Joining multiple groups does not combine your balances or records—you have a separate bankroll in each one.

Where do my tokens come from?

You receive your starting bankroll when you join a group. Everyone in that group begins with the same amount.

Tokens move between members as takes are settled. Winning grows your bankroll; losing reduces it.

What makes a take peer-to-peer?

Every take is made directly between two members of the same group.

One player chooses a game, picks a side, and sets the stakes. Another player decides whether to accept the other side. Stake Your Take does not act as the opponent or set the terms.

Why can the two players risk different amounts?

Not every matchup is an even proposition.

Letting the creator set different stakes for each side makes it possible to put a price on a strong favorite, back an underdog, or offer better terms when nobody wants the other side.

The creator proposes the terms. The other player can accept them or pass.

Can I cancel a take?

Yes, as long as nobody has accepted it.

Once another player accepts, both stakes are locked until the game is settled or the take is voided.

How are takes settled?

Stake Your Take checks the final result using independent sports data sources and settles eligible takes automatically.

Unusual or conflicting results are held for additional review rather than being settled without sufficient confidence.

What happens if a game is canceled or postponed?

A take remains tied to the game's official status. If the game is canceled or otherwise cannot produce a valid final result, the take is voided and both players' stakes are returned.

Can people join after a group starts?

No. Members can join while the group is being set up. Once the commissioner starts the group, membership closes and betting opens.

What sports are available?

Stake Your Take supports real games from major sports, and the available slate depends on what's in season. When you set up a group, the commissioner chooses which sports and games are eligible. More sports and ways to make takes may be added over time.
